| 50 years ago, Aubrey Pitcock started his voyage in the petroleum business as a young gas station attendant for Standard Oil in the heart of California’s Central Valley. Being the youngest of ten children, his income was greatly depended upon by the family to live on. Once into his twenties Aubrey went on to work in sales at the Chevron home office in Downtown San Francisco and then on to various Northern California locations as a territory manager. His first distributorship opportunity came by the way of Tulare, California in the early 1970’s where he was the Chevron Agent for that region. By the time 1973 came around, an opportunity to take on the Martinez and Diablo Valley area was available so he decided to move the troops one more time. Through all these various duties with Chevron as one of their employees, when 1979 came around Chevron had a change in philosophy when it came to their distribution chain. Chevron decided to make their “agents” its own entity by converting them to “Chevron Product Jobbers.” This enabled the agent to run his operation more hands on and in turn serve the customer in a more direct way. So that was when Pitcock Petroleum, Inc. was formed and began distributing Chevron fuels and lubricants in Contra Costa and Alameda Counties. Delivering mainly to surrounding businesses, municipalities, and some retail outlets, the business grew tremendously. As the companies’ growth continued through the 1980’s, the home base in the Chevron loading terminal off Solano Way in Martinez became a little too cumbersome for the business needs. In 1990 the company acquired another local existing petroleum distributor and relocated the office staff, truck parking, and lubricant warehouse to its location off Hookston Road in Pleasant Hill. This acquisition enabled our company to expand into the commercial fueling business in the form of “Cardlock Fueling” operations as well. 24 hour 7 days a week fueling on site with fleet management billing became another option for the commercial fuel user. The next year we joined the “Commercial Fueling Network” which enabled our own Cardlock customers to fuel at other CFN locations as well as opened our location to all CFN customers nationwide. In 1991 another opportunity to expand the business came about. The acquisition of a Unocal 76 distributorship in the Livermore Valley expanded the company once again. The purchase opened the doors for the formation of a sister company “Bay Counties Petroleum” to be managed by Jeff Pitcock. This segment of the business focused primarily on serving the rapidly developing area of the Livermore-Pleasanton Valley. A broad customer base that consists of contractors, farmers, and other businesses helped the rapid growth of Bay Counties Petroleum. By 1994 we had added two CFN commercial fueling locations by way of Dublin and Livermore. The Livermore location is a partnership between “Mountain Cascade” and “Bay Counties Petroleum” which has developed the Livermore CFN location into one of the Bay Area’s largest volume locations. As both businesses grow during the late 1990’s the decision to merge Pitcock Petroleum and Bay Counties Petroleum became a necessity as operating expenses rise and inter-company bookwork became an obvious burden on everybody involved. On November 1, 1999 the two companies officially merged to become one corporation “Bay Counties Pitcock Petroleum, Inc.” The reorganized company would enable the streamline of accounting practices as well as structure the company for the future. Where are we going? So now here we are in the dawn of a new century. We are working on building our business for the long term with bringing new technologies into our computer system to enable our customers to have more control of their account and fleet management. Updating our CFN Cardlock locations as well as possible expansion to other parts of the region are all goals to keep our company striving for more business. As we continue to grow our Chevron Lubricant business, bulk facilities and warehouse expansion are all long-range plans we are working towards. As an “independent oil marketer” we have the ability to market any oil companies products. While many of our competitors sell a number of different brands, we strongly use our relationship with Chevron and their superior product line as our primary and virtually only brand we carry.
