| Artist Statement My jewelry work has been an amalgam of many years as a craft artist and designer. Some of my greatest influences are Janet Taylor, from Arizona State "the color Master herself" other extremely talented artists, metalsmiths Andy Cooperman and Marne Ryan, painters and musicians. I am influenced by just about anything my eyes can focus on. The clouds, seasons, ocean, mountains, places I‘ve lived. I use leaves, wire & metal, and crumpled paper by putting them through the rolling mill to impart it's impression in the metal. Gemstones and pearls themselves also lend to the creative process. How they go together or not, what I want the metal to do, curve with the shape of a stone or shell, or to wrap to hold it together. These are all important to the vision of the piece. I play with the flow of the piece, the juxtaposition of this color stone and pearl with others if it has several strands. How they all play together. Some of the techniques I use are Kuem Boo, a Korean process of fusing 24 kt. gold to silver. Surface texture continues to intrigue me; using cold instead of hot connections makes me rethink the connections, positioning and function of the piece. Embossing of textures on to metal either by hammer, rolling mill via impressions or by stamping, weaving or sewing of metal wire and sometimes using reposee techniques and setting of stones. I am never at a loss of inspiration or ideas, just the hours in the day to bring the ideas to fruition. I love my job. It is my passion! Biographical Information: Born in Rochester, NY in 1955 to a mother who was an artist and a father who was an operatic voiced singer. Studied music at Eastman School of Music; art at the Memorial Art Gallery in high school. College degree from Ohio University in 1977, BS in Textiles/Art. Various graduate classes at Arizona State University in textiles, fibers, & hand papermaking. Summer of 1990 at Penland Art & Craft School, Penland, North Carolina and three weeks in China, Fall 1990 delegate for handpapermaking tour. Classes from University of California at Berkeley in photography with Pete Pfersick (Looking Glass owner). Metalsmithing courses from RP Leaf at Richmond Art Center and Susan Wood at Mendocino Art Center. Lots of studio experimentation. In business since 1992 making "treasures" in jewelry.
