Sales Strategies for Business Growth is a member of the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce.

 With over 30 years of sales training and consulting experience, Joanne Black truly deserves the title of "sales maverick". Her philosophy is that no one should ever make a cold call to sell services or products. While some may see this as heretical thinking, Joanne points out that people can be stuck believing in an outdated sales model for which they see no alternative.

Yet for Joanne -- and her clients -- there is an alternative. It's called "referral-selling", which she teaches by tapping into a wealth of valuable life experiences.

Joanne developed her leadership qualities during high school and college, where she was president of just about everything: social groups, her sorority, and positions in community organizations. As Joanne says, "This taught me how to engage people around a common vision." That vision: focus on a result and have a plan to get there -- valuable life skills for any situation.

Joanne began her career in sales and management training program at Joseph Magnin, which was one of the leading fashion houses in the San Francisco Bay Area. She learned the nuances of selling, customer expectations, handling problems, and working with a diverse work force.

At Joseph Magnin, Joanne developed the mantra that's become the foundation of her extraordinary leadership ability: Doing something that's never been done before can be the best reason for doing it.

Still in her twenties, Joanne then co-founded De Tour, the first luggage specialty store in Marin County, California. She researched the market and defied those who said it wouldn't work by building a company that was profitable from day one. "If you follow conventional wisdom, chances are you'll never have breakthrough ideas," says Joanne. "Quite frankly, I wasn't surprised that the business was so successful. While I knew there were risks, I also knew what the research was telling me."

Joanne moved on to sales leadership positions with Omega Performance, a financial services training and consulting firm, and The Forum Corporation, a global management, consulting and training company that served such clients as Advanced Micro Devices, Hewlett-Packard, Pacific Gas & Electric, Shell Oil, and VISA.

In 1996 Joanne formed a sales consulting, training and professional speaking business to assist entrepreneurs and owners of fast-growing, innovative companies. This is where she developed the No More Cold Calling™ concept -- that building relationships and getting referrals generates sales faster and more cost-effectively than cold-calling.

Today, Joanne trains people how to break out of the old, inefficient, and ineffective methods that prevent many businesses from flourishing. Her clients learn how to think differently about their businesses, and how to construct compelling reasons for people to buy their products or services.

Joanne Black is leader with integrity, determination, and the clarity to see how conventional sales "wisdom" isn't always so effective.
